Nicolaus Copernicus

Copernicus is considered the founder of modern astronomy.

Copernicus was a Renaissance astronomer and mathematician. Copernicus first formulated a comprehensive heliocentric model which placed the Sun at the center of the solar system. Copernicus popularized the idea that every planets, including Earth, revolve the Sun. Before him, scientists usually believed the Earth to be in the center of Universe.
