Total lunar eclipse on 4th April 2015

A total lunar eclipse or "Blood Moon" will take place on 4th April, 2015. This is the first of two total lunar eclipses in 2015.

With 4 minute 43 sec duration of total lunar eclipse, this is the shortest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century. The duration of penumbral eclipse is 5 hourr 57 minute 32 sec and duration of umbral eclipse is 3 hour 29 minute.

A lunar eclipse can occur only at full Moon. Lunar eclipses occur when Earths shadow blocks the light from Sun, which otherwise reflects off the Moon.


Lunar eclipses look approximately the same all over the world and happen at nearly same time.
